Jacksonville ISD's school board wrapped up quickly Monday evening, as trustees unanimously approved several agenda items, including a decision to give Superintendent Dr. Chad Kelly authorization to file a complaint with the State Board for Educator Certification on abandonment of contract by former employee Shonda Emmert.
In other action, the board:
• Approved a district concussion oversight team for the current school year, comprised of UT Health East Texas physician Dr. Jeremy Day and JISD athletic trainer Jason Kraus;
• Approved an application to the Texas Education Agency for class size exemption waivers, totaling 17 for East Side Elementary, Joe Wright Elementary, West Side Elementary and Fred Douglass Elementary;
• Approved two separate budget amendments – Amendment 20-01 authorizes administrative staff to transfer budget allocations between functions, provided there is no increase in the amount of total budget, while Amendment 20-02 provides for the purchases that were encumbered in the 2018-19 school year but did not arrive by Aug. 31, the end of the school's fiscal year. “This fiscal year we did not take possession of the school buses on order, nor the police vehicles,” said Lindy Finley, the district's associate superintendent of Finance and Operations.
Trustees also approved a consent agenda that includes minutes of the Aug. 26 regular board meeting, quarterly work order reports, along with other reports.
