Approximately 1,000 backpacks stuffed with supplies will be distributed during the Aug. 1 Back to School Fair, an annual event sponsored by the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce for the 14th consecutive year.
Held at Jacksonville ISD's John Alexander Gymnasium, 811 Farnsworth St., the fair will take place from 4 to 7 p.m, according to Chamber officials.
“The Chamber’s Back to School Fair Committee, Jacksonville ISD employees and volunteers work together to get the students ready for the upcoming school year,” according to a release issued by the Chamber. “This is the 14th year the Jacksonville Chamber has organized this event – in the beginning, an estimated 100 backpacks were given away. Due to the donations from so many (who are) investing in our community, this year we will give away 1,000 backpacks filled with grade-level school supplies.”
Donations came from throughout the community: Businesses, civic clubs, churches and individuals, the release noted.
The packs will be given to registered Jacksonville ISD students, who must be present to accept them.
Meanwhile, monetary donations and other supplies will continue to be accepted at the Chamber offices, located at 526 E. Commerce St. Contact the office at 903-586-2217 or visit www.jacksonvilletexas.com to learn more.
