Stephen Crow and Pablo Lara want to make an impact in our community, and their first step is New Year’s Eve with A New Year, A New Me — a Christian-based fellowship/concert event.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 31 at Skateland USA on U.S. Hwy. 69 in Jacksonville and run until 1 a.m. Jan. 1, 2011.
“The thought to do this came from our personal experiences,” Lara said. “Our personal experiences of living through drugs, violence and gangs, then finding Christ and the switch we had on our whole perspective of life.”
Crow said the event will include Christian rap artist F.O.E, Meekness Music Group, motivational speakers, testimony, fellowship and worship.
“This is for anyone who wants to leave behind their old way of life and live a new life for the Lord,” he said. “Like the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, ‘If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away and all things are made new.’”
Lara said as many styles of Christian music as possible will be played that night, and in addition to the live music, there will be free CDs and door prizes given throughout the night.
“What we’re trying to offer is something different,” he said. “We want people to see a different perspective of the Christian view — we want them to know that Christians aren’t uptight.
“We want people to see Christians are just like everyone else, and by sharing testimony, we hope to do that. You help a lot when you give your testimony. People don’t just see all closed doors.”
The free event will use a lock-in system, so parents will know their children are safe, and anyone underage will have to be signed in and out by their parents.
The venue will be no smoking allowed inside.
Lara said the New Year event is just a first step in his and Crow’s plans to be a positive force in Cherokee County.
Everyone will be admitted for free. Organizers are currently seeking sponsors for the event as well. For more information or to become a sponsor, call Pablo Lara at 903-721-8450 or Stephen Crow at 903-721-0736.
