Country Charm Candles, in conjunction with the Alpha Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi social service sorority is holding a fundraiser to benefit Jacksonville resident Melinda Lewis, who is battling cancer. Lewis is best-known for her long-time involvement in local civic organizations and for her extensive holiday decorations at Christmas and Thanksgiving.
The fundraiser, billed as “Peppermints and PJ’s” will take place on Tuesday, 6-10 p.m. at Country Charm Candles.
Those working the event will be dressed in pajamas and those attending are urged to dress in PJ’s or sweats.
“We’re going to serve Wine-a-ritas and Belinis plus chocolates and other treats,” said Sherry Shaw, owner. “We’re also going to give away door prizes and Alpha Rho will be holding a bake sale in conjunction with the event.”
The sorority will also be wrapping Christmas gifts. Gift wrapping is available for all gifts, not just those purchased at Country Charm Candles. Part of the proceeds from items purchased at Country Charm Candles that evening, as well as the money raised from the bake sale and gift wrapping, will be donated to Lewis.
Country Charm Candles is also planning to host a cookout fundraiser for Lewis in February. “We plan to grill up 2,000-3,000 hamburgers and hot dogs, and get some of the churches involved,” said Chuck Shaw, owner. “It’s going to be a big deal.”
