On Wednesday, Jacksonville FFA travelled to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville to participate in the area IX Career Development Event (CDE) contests.

The JFFA took teams to compete in the livestock judging, horse judging, nursery/landscape judging, and agricultural mechanics events.

Team members spent many hours of their busy high school lives over the last several months preparing for these contests.

Jacksonville came away from Sam Houston with several awards.

The nursery/landscape team took seventh place in the area. Team members were Brackston McKnight (placed 20th), Kourtnie Goodman (placed 21st), and Trace Sanchez (placed 17th).

The agricultural mechanics team came away with multiple awards. The team placed first overall in the area, and will advance to the Texas FFA state contest on May 6.

Team member Ryan Dement placed seventh place individually and Thomas Alberts placed second; other team members are Amanda Twedt (placed 13th), Austin Essex (placed 11th), and Ryan Morrison.

The livestock judging team members were Brandon Ganske, Kristen Hutson, and AJ Dearing. The horse judging team members were Brandt Murray (placed 19th), Jordan Spradlin, and Kami Martin.
