Staff Report

Barry Griffin, a former golf coach and kinesiology instructor at Lon Morris College, pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of child pornography.

Griffin, 39, formerly of Jacksonville, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine after pleading guilty in the Eastern District federal court of Judge John Love in Tyler. According to the court, the sentence could be increased because the more than 600 pornographic images depicted children younger than 12 years old.

Griffin turned himself into authorities in June after learning that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. He was released into the custody of his parents, who live in Granbury, and required electronic monitoring. Griffin was represented at trial by defense attorney F.R. “Buck” Files Jr.

The coach joined the Lon Morris faculty in 2005, and was put on administrative leave following his arrest. He is no longer employed by the college.
