The Jacksonville Fire Department recently promoted firefighters Ted Hunt and Mike Terry to the rank of fire lieutenant.

Hunt and Terry join Lt. Dennis Tate and will be responsible for the management of equipment, training, knowledge and safety, according to Jacksonville Fire Marshal Brent Smith.

“We’re confident that they’ll assist in the leadership of the department in an efficient manner,” Smith said. “Lieutenants are an integral part of our leadership team.”

Hunt worked from 1984 to 1994 for JFD, and he rejoined the department three-and-a-half years ago.

“I’m excited about the new challenge set forth,” Hunt said. “I look forward to being a leader for the department.”

Terry began with the JFD in 1985 as a volunteer. He has worked full time with the department for the last 7-and-a-half years.

“It’s going to be different working with the guys and being over them now,” Terry said.

According to Jacksonville Fire Chief Rodney Kelley, there were six candidates for the two open lieutenant positions, and the review panel chose Hunt and Terry unanimously.
