Dale E. Jamerson announces his candidacy for Place 5 on the Jacksonville Independent School District Board.

Jamerson has served the citizens of Jacksonville in many different capacities, including as District 2 city councilman for four years, leaving only to start a new business.

“There are some challenges confronting JISD’s past and future, and I wish to be part of the solution,” Jamerson said. “With the help of good, calm and reasonable leadership, staff, community leaders and other civic-minded people, JISD will be out front.”

While on the city council, he dealt with issues including employees, budgets, equipment, services, and sales and worked with business all over the world.

“You know him as the guy at the Tomato Bowl with the bull horn yelling ‘Get Up Indians, Get Up Jacksonville,” Jamerson’s press release stated.

Why does Jamerson do this at games?

“He loves supporting all of our kids. He wants to help school life get better,” according to the statement.

For the past five years, Jamerson has served on the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce. For four of these years, he has been the Community Development Division chairman. Jamerson is also a Lay Leader of Antioch United Methodist Church.

He is a 1971 graduate of Jacksonville High School and has also attended Tyler Junior College and the University of Hawaii. He was honorably discharged after six years in the United States Army.

Jamerson has been married for 30 years to Luisa Barrios Jamerson, also a graduate of JHS (Class of 1970). They have seven grandchildren, four of whom attend school at JISD.

“All the children of Jacksonville need a great education, with great teachers, all of which need safe and secure buildings to learn and teach in, at a reasonable cost to local tax payers,” Jamerson said.

Place 5 is currently filled by Garry Minton, and Jimmy Brown has also filed to run for the seat. According to JISD officials, Steve McFarland also filed for Place 5 Wednesday.
