Jacksonville Police Department officers made an assault arrest Friday morning, as a man allegedly attacked his wife and child.

According to JPD Detective Jason Price, the crime took place at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Fulton Street.

“According to the report, John Diaz comes home to his spouse and children, and he accuses his spouse of infidelity, at which point a verbal altercation breaks out. During the fight, one of the children comes into the room, and the child gets pushed down by Diaz,” Price said. “He then also pushes the souse down and pulls a drawer out of a dresser and throws it at her.”

Diaz then held his wife down, refusing to let her leave.

“She attempted to call 9-1-1 using a cell phone, but he took it and threw it across the room. The juvenile then runs from the residence to a residence on Edgewood Street, where he contacts the adults at the residence,” Price said. “Officers arrived and made contact with both the victims and the actor. After attaining the facts and taking evidentiary photos, the officers took Diaz into custody. He was booked for assault/family violence, injury to a child, unlawful restraint and inference with a 9-1-1 call.”

Child Protective Services was also notified.

Bond was set at $3,000 each for the assault, restraint and interference charges. Bond was set at $20,000 for injury to a child.

Both the mother and the child suffered minor injures.
