The Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries Division will hold a Christmas tree drop off location to benefit the fish habitat project at Lake Striker.
The drop off location will be at the corner of Devereaux and South Bolton streets in Jacksonville on the vacant city lot until Jan. 15, 2011.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is requesting Christmas trees to conduct fish habitat research at Lake Striker. Habitat is limited at Lake Striker, and many other lakes in Texas. Approximately 250 Christmas trees will be introduced in Lake Striker to 1) increase fish habitat, 2) concentrate sport fish and increase angler catch, and 3) investigate effectiveness of different brushpile configurations. Results of this study will benefit fishing at Lake Striker, as well as many other lakes in Texas.
Project cooperators include Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties Water Control and Improvement District Number One, Lake Striker Homeowners Association, Henderson Chamber of Commerce, and Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department.
