The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department released details about the capture of Ruben Rincon, 22, the man suspected of shooting David Thomason of Jacksonville on his property on CR 3303 just west of Jacksonville during an aggravated robbery Dec. 4.
Rincon was captured at about 7 p.m. Thursday.
“Information was received that Ruben Rincon was located at a residence south of Jacksonville. Officials with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the location in an attempt to locate and apprehend Ruben Rincon,” according to a press release from the CCSD. “Prior to officials’ arrival, Ruben Rincon had fled on foot into the woods.
“Officials with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Texas Department of Criminal Justice K-9 Unit, initiated an extensive search of the area in an attempt to locate Ruben Rincon. After a search of the area was conducted, Ruben Rincon was taken into custody by Cherokee County Officials on FM 347 near Loop 456 in Jacksonville without incident.”
Rincon is charged with aggravated robbery, a first degree felony punishable by five to 99 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and/or a $10,000 fine.
His bond was set at $2,000,000 by Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace James Morris.
Hugo Rincon, 19, still has an active warrant for aggravated robbery.
