A suspect in the robbery of Jacksonville’s Payless ShoeSource Thursday morning was arrested by Anderson County sheriff officials later Thursday afternoon, said Jacksonville Police Department Detective Sgt. Daniel Franklin. Jon Nichols, 47, of Galveston, was booked into the Anderson County Jail on three charges.
Franklin said after the robbery, Jacksonville authorities sent out a description of the suspected robber and the motorcycle he used to get away from the scene.
“The Anderson County sheriff had seen the motorcycle as he was going into Palestine,” Franklin said.
Two Anderson County deputies began looking for the motorcycle and observed it at a convenience store. Franklin said the driver had sought shelter from the afternoon rainfall.
“They ordered him to the ground and detained him,” Franklin said.
He added a gun similar to the silver revolver originally reported as having been used in the robbery was found on Nichols, as well as around $47 in cash. Franklin said about $50 was taken from the Payless Shoe Source.
“Officers were able to link him to the robbery of an Alto donut shop,” Franklin said of an incident which occurred earlier in the week. “During the course of the investigation we received information he was on a stolen motorcycle. The suspect said he stole a motorcycle in Galveston.”
Nichols remains in Anderson County custody on $100,000 bond for the aggravated robbery charge. An unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon charge and an unlawful use of a motor vehicle charge did not have bond amounts set as of press time.
