After months of discussion and contract negotiations, the Kampgrounds Of America land sale is finally ready to take place.

The Rusk City Council will meet Thursday at noon in the City Council chambers for a special meeting to discuss and possibly approve the sale of the Atoy Highway recreation property.

KOA representative Walter Preble has agreed to purchase the site from the city with the intent to personally make it KOA compliant. A similar meeting was scheduled in July, but was cancelled the day before so that the contract could be tweaked.

“Mr. Preble has signed the contract and the mayor just wants the council to look it over before she signs it,” said Rusk City Manager Mike Murray.

At the meeting, Murray will also hand out the proposed city budget for 2006-07 for discussion. Next month, the city of Rusk will finalize and approve next year’s budget.
