The Texas State Railroad won an award for “Best Attraction” during the Texas Travel Industry Association award luncheon at the Texas Travel Counselors Conference and Texas Travel Fair in Arlington, TX on Thursday, April 28, 2011.
In October 2010, a group of Texas Travel Counselors participated in a five-day Study Tour, which included the Pineywoods and Gulf Coast regions. The annual tour is sponsored by the Texas Travel Industry Association. The travel counselors toured 11 cities, ate at 14 restaurants, and visited 27 attractions. After the study tour, the counselors voted on the “Best” in each category.
“The travel counselors see millions of tourist every year and they are always promoting our railroad and upcoming special events”, said Lori Pennington, Marketing Manager. “Although we meet with them every year to talk about the railroad and send them brochures, a lot of the counselors have never had a chance to ride the train, so this was a great opportunity to allow them experience it. We were excited to have them visit us and very honored to win this award.”
The Texas Travel Industry Association Study Tour was established in 1976 to educate TxDOT travel counselors about tourism opportunities for travelers. The study tour gives a firsthand experience to the travel counselors to take back to Travel Information Centers and share about attractions in the different areas of the state.
