The 5th Annual Thunder in the Pines Motorcycle Rally and Music Jam kicks off Friday with a parade of motorcycles and Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce President Peggy Renfro said all are invited to witness the spectacle. Motorcycles and live entertainment will be active through the weekend.

“We expect the weather will be cooperating with us this year and I feel like we’ll have a great crowd,” Renfro said. “We’ve got some great entertainment for this year.”

An event which has grown year after year, Renfro said Thunder in the Pines gathered around 1,500 last year and is expected to receive up to 2,000 this year.

Renfro also said it will take place around the Norman Activity Center area with band performances beginning Saturday. First up is “Without a Doubt” at 11 a.m.

“This is a community event that has been organized by volunteers. The sponsors have covered the expense,” Renfro added. “There are not many places you can go and get free entertainment with the quality we have this year.”

She also said the police association will handle the motorcycle segment of the event, which begins Friday at noon with registration and features events stretching through Sunday. Bike games will be at 4:30 p.m. and a biker ball, featuring “Shinebox”, is Friday at 7 p.m.
