Angela Aguirre, a 29-year-old Jacksonville woman, was arrested May 28 and booked into the county jail on eight counts of forgery of a financial instrument against an elderly person. Cherokee County Jail officials verified Aguirre was still in custody at press time.

Jacksonville Police Department Detective Sgt. Daniel Franklin said she is accused of stealing six or so checks from a local elderly man.

“An elderly man noticed some of his checks were missing. When he and his daughter began looking for them they were notified six had been cashed,” Franklin said. “He notified us and the name that kept showing up was Angela Aguirre; he told us he didn’t know her and was unsure how she got a hold of his check book.”

Franklin said he hasn’t verified the total amount on the six missing checks.

After getting a description of Aguirre from a bank teller officers located her when responding to a disturbance call, Franklin said.

Her bond was set at $80,000; $10,000 for each check.
