Money Smart ‘How to Avoid Financial Exploitation’

Palestine Senior Adult Center participants attend the Gateway to American Opportunities “Money Smart: How to Avoid Financial Exploitation” on Jan. 17 at the Palestine Senior Adult Center. The regional literacy project was funded by Capital One grant awarded to A Circle of Ten, Inc.

Gateway to American Opportunities (GAO), regional literacy initiative of A Circle of Ten, Inc, presented the Money Smart “How to Avoid Financial Exploitation” session at the Palestine Senior Center at Meals on Wheels on January 17th, 2019. The financial literacy session was funded by Capital One grant awarded to A Circle of Ten, Inc. Thirty-two senior citizens attended the session.

Ruben Ramirez of Capital One Palestine Branch, assisted with the presentation at the Senior Citizen Center. Mr. Ramirez presented “How to Keep your Bank Account Secure” and “How to Prevent Identity Theft”. Tiffany Courville of Capital One assisted with the door prizes. All of the participants received the FDIC “Money Smart for Older Adults Resource Guide” presented by Gateway to American Opportunities’ staff. The resource guides were also presented at the Bullard Senior Center and to the Meals on Wheels home bound participants in Troup and Cherokee County, TX.

The GAO staff wishes to thank the senior adult participants and Lois Durant, executive director of the Palestine Meals on Wheels for the opportunity to present the financial literacy session at their program.
