On Tuesday, Sept. 10, the 33rd class of the Jacksonville Leadership Institute began their new year.
The morning began with its annual welcome breakfast. Tom Trimble, 2019 Chairman of the Jacksonville Chamber Board of Directors, welcomed the new students, their sponsors, JLI alumnae and other special guests. Joan Malone, Austin Bank, Class of 1998 and Chloie Devillier, JISD Senior, Class of 2019, spoke to the group about their time in the program, what they learned and what to expect as a result of their participation. After the breakfast, the group continued their day by going through the ropes courses, and various other team building activities, at Lakeview Methodist Conference Center.
The afternoon was wrapped up by Gough Grubbs, retired Stage Distribution Center Senior Vice President, presenting “A Leader’s Role.”
Each September, Jacksonville Leadership Institute begins a new class. The program, which meets one day per month and goes for nine months, holds sessions on leadership strategies and visits local businesses. The purpose of the visits is to learn about what Jacksonville has to offer and to learn of the city’s rich history.
Registration for each new class begins in or around July. This year the program was promoted heavily through social media, word of mouth, and the Chamber publications.
The 33rd class is comprised of 16 students. Those students are Sam Alders, Citizen’s 1st Bank; Michelle Aarant, Christus Trinity Mother Francis; John Atkinson, Peoples Church; Lourdes Camacho, Cherokee County Public Health; Sharon Crowe, JISD; Charlvin Doty, Kingdom Christian Center; Brook Hallford, Christ the Redeemer; Amy Harmon, UT Health; Molly Loughmiller, Southside Bank; Michael Mathis, TX Rudy Properties; Monica Maberry, Baker Insurance; Julie Rowe (not pictured) Austin Bank; Jeremy Singleton, JISD Student; Julisa Trujillo, Austin Bank; Duane Weatherford, Republic Services; and Mark Whiteland, Remedy Staffing.
