RUSK - A special Rusk city council meeting has been set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Rusk Civic Center, approximately one week after certified recall petitions concerning Councilmen Jan Pate and Ken Ferrara were submitted to city leaders.
According to a meeting agenda posted at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 - just hours after Rusk City Secretary Rosalyn Brown submitted the two citizen-based petitions to the council during a brief special meeting - two items specifically deal with the issue.
Council members will discuss the recall petitions, with no action to be taken, then will discuss and take action on “fixing the date for recall election to be held concerning the recall of both (Ferrara and Pate) respectively, if they have not resigned within five days after the submission of certified recall petition” to the council on Dec. 21.
Other agenda items include:
• Consideration of a Rusk Economic Development Corporation budget amendment for a hydrologic and hydraulic analysis from Jones and Carter Engineering Firm for a flood elevation study along One Eye Creek;
• Discussion/consideration of approval of the re-plat of several lots that are part of the Twisted Oaks Addition in the Stephen Halbert Survey; and
• Discussion/consideration of an ordinance designating an area that includes eight blocks, as well as the unnumbered block occupied by the Cherokee County Courthouse, “more particularly described herein as Reinvestment Zone No. 5 for tax abatement purposes.”
Separate public hearing will be held at the beginning of Thursday’s meeting regarding the Twisted Oaks Addition and the Reinvestment Zone agenda items.
