The roar of motorcycles will fill downtown Jacksonville this weekend during the 9th annual Thunder in the Pines event.

Folks will be treated to an array of street vendors and entertainment, including performances by "Torch" from truTV's "Full Throttle Saloon."

The event begins with registration at noon Friday and is sponsored by the Jacksonville Police Association, according to Sgt. Daniel Franklin of the Jacksonville Police Department.

The cost is $20 per person for those who want to participate in the bike poker run and other games. To check out the bikes and vendors downtown, there is no charge, Franklin said.

Portions of Commerce and Austin streets will be blocked off beginning noon Friday for the event.

Participating bikers will meet at Love's Lookout at 6 p.m. Friday for a parade to the Biker Ball to be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Norman Activity Center. Lady Chazz is set to the perform. It will be catered by the Super Gallo deli. Tickets are $20 per person for the ball.

Festivities will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday with live band performances all day and a poker run at 10 a.m. There will be cash prizes for high and low hands with the chances to buy new cards at the last table. Other bike games, a bike show and a 50/50 drawing will be held.

"Torch" is scheduled to perform at 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

"We started this nine years ago to raise money for victims of child abuse," Franklin said. "Mainly, the money goes to the Crisis Center, but some of it goes to other places in Cherokee and Anderson counties."
