Three people were transported to East Texas Medical Center-Jacksonville, Tuesday morning, after an 18-wheeler hit a truck on South Jackson Street. According to police, how the accident occurred and who was at fault is being investigated.

An 18-wheeler carrying a load of sod hit a Ford F150 pickup just after 8 a.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of South Jackson Street and overturned, according to Jacksonville Police Officer Jon Shobert.

James Craig of Jacksonville, the driver of the 18-wheeler, and his passenger, Angela Pellerin of Rusk, escaped life-threatening injuries, but were both transported to East Texas Medical Center-Jacksonville, Shobert said.

The jaws of life were used to cut the driver of the Ford, Randy Brown of Jacksonville, from his truck. Brown was listed in serious condition, according to ETMC officials.

Craig was initially handcuffed and put into a Jacksonville police car, after officers found that he was wanted for traffic warrants.

He was later released to ETMC after claiming injuries from the accident, Shobert said.

“We are still investigating, and we’re not sure yet who was at fault,” Shobert said.

As of press time Tuesday, Pellerin had been treated and released, and there was no hospital listing for Craig.
