TROUP – The local Chamber of Commerce is looking for a few good businesses to help round out their membership roster, promoting Troup and its events year-round.

Describing the new membership list to be published online soon, Chamber executive director Suzanne Loudamy reminded potential members that joining the organization “is inexpensive advertising for our local businesses,” while the Chamber website “is also a good source of local information, visited several thousands times each month.”

In addition to promoting local businesses, the Troup Chamber – which has the motto, “Troup is OPEN for business” – is host of the town's annual Christmas parade and an annual awards banquet in the spring.

“Funding for those events comes from membership dues and from the sale of tickets for the banquet,” Loudamy said.

The Chamber also promotes Troup by offering Welcome Bags to new residents who visit city hall to turn on their utilities. The bags include a variety of things, such business cards, take-out restaurant menus, coupons, promotional items and giveaways.

A total of 75 bags are planned, and businesses have until the end of February to contribute to them, Loudamy said.

The annual membership drive began earlier this year, and Chamber members will be recognized during a Feb. 21 dinner hosted in a private home.

“This will be a time of food, fellowship, just a little business and sharing your ideas of what we can do together, as a Chamber, to help retain and grow our business community,” she said.
