The Troup community is invited to be present for the dedication of the Joe Layne Family Splash Pad. The splash pad has been open to the community since mid-May 2019.
The dedication will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at the splash pad at Zack Taylor Park, behind Troup City Hall.
The plans began for this project after the Joe Layne family offered up the first $100,000. The Troup Community Development Corporation, the Jasper Family Fund at East Texas Communities Foundation as well as the Jasper Ventures Employee Directed Giving Fund at East Texas Communities Foundation joined the Layne family with significant donations.
Many members of the community, businesses, civic organizations and even churches contributed to this family-friendly place of fun. In the last weeks of school in May of 2018, Troup Elementary second graders held a lemonade stand on their playground and proudly presented $937.40 to the Troup City Council.
The 1574 square foot splash pad is located in the city-owned Zack Taylor Park, located at the corner of East Calvert and South Virginia Streets and has been a big hit this summer.
