CHEROKEE COUNTY – A Garland woman was killed Sunday on U.S. Highway 69, 3.5 miles north of Rusk, when she was struck by a vehicle while chasing her dog.
According to a preliminary crash investigation, about 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Katherine Ann Petty, 60, “ran into the lanes of traffic chasing after a dog” at the same time a 2011 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer – operated by Rogelio Armando Castillo, 41, of Lufkin – was traveling north in the inside lane of US 69 when the crash occurred, said Sgt. Jean Dark, public information officer for the Tyler DPS office
Petty was taken to UT Health – Tyler, where she later died.
The woman's dog survived the crash.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
