The news that Mud Creek Off Road Park has closed radiated throughout Jacksonville this past week, and the loss of the venue will be felt by many.
We are saddened by the loss of the park's owner, and we offer our sincerest sympathies to the family.
Closing the venue is understandable given the circumstances.
However, it seems the property would be very sought after, if the family chooses to sell. That is a decision that rests entirely with the owners, though.
The annual Mud Nationals event held at Mud Creek each Spring generated thousands of dollars each year for Jacksonville. From hotels and restaurants that were packed with visitors, to convenience stores and gas stations that provided necessities for the mudders.
Mud Nationals became known across the southern region and drew visitors from several states each year. We thank Mud Creek Off Road Park for the years of service to our town!
According to officials, Mud Nationals will continue, but the new venue has not yet been announced.
Until then, don't forget that there is another ATV park in Jacksonville, and it is ready to serve the needs of those who want to enjoy the great outdoors.
River Run ATV Park has an annual event each year the same weekend as Mud Nationals, according to manager Scott Bordelon. The "March Mudd Mayhem" will be scheduled as usual next year, as well, he said.
Bordelon said his facility has seen a slight increase in patrons in the past couple weeks since Mud Creek closed and that he believes River Run is in a good position to host an even greater number of guests.
“We have added 20 cabins for 2018 and this should help in any additional patrons we may see attending our normal weekends and our eight yearly scheduled events,” Bordelon said.
River Run ATV Park is located on the beautiful Neches River, west of Jacksonville and southeast of Frankston. The guests of River Run enjoy playing on over 2,000 acres of private land. Many people enjoy riding their ATV, 4 x 4 trucks, horses, and other off-road vehicles. This park offers many fun activities for the entire family such as, extreme mud riding, dry trail riding, mud pits, and scenic views of the Neches River and mountain area of Big Rock.
The camping at River Run offers 156 RV sites with power and water hookups, a 4 bay RV Dump Station and “lots of area for dry camping."
