“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.” [1 John 3:1-3]
Do you need something positive and uplifting to think about today? Think about these words from John. Think about the fact that you are a child of God, and when Christ appears you will be like Him!
Can you imagine how it will be to be like Jesus?
1] You will have a glorified body. No pain, no illness, no limitations. “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
2] We will have increased knowledge and understanding. “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” [1 Corinthians 13:12]
3] We will be immortal. “For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.” [1 Corinthians 15:53]
I am sure there are many other ways we will be more like Jesus when He returns to take us home – ways that we cannot imagine. One thing for sure, it will be wonderful.
Life on earth presents a steady flow of challenges mixed with difficult times and even tragedies. It is often hard to enjoy the good times for fear of what may be to come, or even regret for the past. We need to find positive, uplifting, hopeful, things to think about. As Paul taught, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” [Philippians 4:8]
We can replace our negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Thinking about Jesus’ return and the wonder of it all is an excellent thought to dwell on. Meditating on the promise of eternal life in a renewed body should lift us up and bring us joy. Give it a try. Imagine yourself in heaven with Jesus, and the angels and your loved ones: them in their glorified bodies and you in your glorified body. Wow! It will be wonderful! WE WILL BE LIKE JESUS!
“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.” [1 John 3:2] Amen.
