BAYTOWN, Texas — Road victories against top-caliber opponents are few and far between in NJCAA Region XIV.
On Wednesday night in Baytown, Lon Morris College was able to garner one of those prized road wins, a 71-70 decision over Lee College.
“Anytime you can get a conference win on the road, you are doing good,” Lon Morris head coach, Dale Dotson, said. “Our kids did a really good job I thought.
“We went from being 14 down early in the second half to taking a four-point lead with three seconds to go.”
Shreveport, LA.-freshman, Kyle Preston, topped out with 22 points to spark the Bearcats (7-3, 1-1 in Region XIV-South).
Nate Velasco (Portland, Texas) added 14 and Telmichus Washington (Shreveport, La.) fired in a dozen points.
Dotson said that the win was even more rewarding because of how strong the Rebels (8-2, 0-1) are this year.
“Lee has always had good players, but this year they have a good team,” Dotson said. “They are big and tall at all positions and their (reserves) are also tall in all positions.”
The 'Cats will have the weekend off before diving back into league play next Wednesday at Blinn College.
“The break is just what we need,” Dotson said. “We need to get some of our people healthy again.”
