16-5A Baseball: JHS blanks JT, 12-0; Walters throws a 1-hitter

GRANT WALTERS

TYLER — Jacksonville collected a win over John Tyler for the second time this week on Thursday night at Mike Carter Field in the Rose City where the Tribe shutout the Lions, 12-0.

Grant Walters pitched a 5-inning (run rule) complete game and allowed only one hit to earn the win on the mound for the Tribe (4-8, 2-0).

Walters struck out 12 Lions and walked two in what was a dominating performance.

Just as the team did in Tuesday's triumph over JT, the Tribe went to work from the get go to nail down the win.

Jacksonville scored five runs in the first frame, added four more in the second and scored two men in the third.

The Tribe had plenty of standouts offensively. Michael Tucker produced four singles in four trips to the plate for Jacksonville and Taylor Bingham belted a double, singled and drove in a run.

Carson Cleaver had a two-base knock and three RBI while Angel Pinuelas pounded out a base hit and drove in three runs.

Walters picked up a base hit and two RBI and Mason Hammons singled and drove in a run.

A Richard Vega single was JT's only hit of the evening.

Next week the Tribe are scheduled to play two games against Hallsville (9-3-1, 1-0).

On Tuesday the Tribe will travel, with Friday's tilt scheduled for Summers Norman Field.

First pitch in both games is set for 7 p.m.
