The Associated Press Texas high school football polls experienced significant change for several teams this week, including the Alto Yellowjackets and the Carthage Bulldogs.

The 'Jackets, after being upset 36-35 by Elkhart, fell from No. 3 to No. 8 in the Class A ranking.

The Mean Sting will have a chance to redeem themselves on Friday when they host Groveton at 7:30 p.m.

Carthage was rewarded for its hard-fought, 42-28, win over Class 4-A Jacksonville last week by leap frogging Stephenville, who had occupied the top spot, into the No. 1 position in Class 3A.

In other movement, involving District 16-4A clubs, Whitehouse moved up a notch to No. 5 after winning big over Hallsville, while John Tyler tumbled to No. 17 after being trounced by Class 5-A Lufkin on opening night.

In Class 2A, White Oak's Roughnecks — Bullard's opponent this week — checked in at No. 14 after a 39-3 drubbing of Redwater on Friday.
