Alto's Castillo verbally commits to Bethany (Kan.) College

Josh Castillo of Alto High School is pictured making a block on a Union Grove defender during a game between the two schools in the 2019 season. Castillo, a senior, has announced his verbal commitment to Bethany (Kan.) College (NAIA).

ALTO — Josh Castillo, a senior at Alto High School, has made his college choice known.

Over the weekend the 6-foot-1, 295-pound offensive lineman said via social media that he has verbally (non-binding) committed to Bethany College in Linsborg, Kansas.

The Swedes are members of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (NAIA).

Bethany College posted a 4-6 record last season, the first for head coach Curran White, and finished the campaign by winning three of their last four games.

Attracting Texas high school standouts to play football is nothing new for the Swedes, as the 2019 team had 22 young men from the Lone Star State on the roster.

Castillo was coached by Ricky Meeks at Alto.
