WILLS POINT — Bullard pulled off a mild upset by getting past Wills Point 21-16 on Friday night on the Tigers' home turf.
The win in the District 7-4A-II lid lifter improved the Panthers' worksheet to 2-5, 1-0.
Wills Point dropped to 3-4, 0-1 with the loss.
Bullard quarterback Tristen Shewmake had touchdown runs of 13 and 29 yards to spark the Panther offense. The senior carried 24 times for 153 yards and had 70 yards via the air.
The Panthers enjoyed their biggest lead of the evening, 21-9, after Shewmake raced in from 29 yards out with 9:03 to play in the third stanza.
With Wills Point leading 6-0, Bryson Luscombe put Bullard on the scoreboard with a tick left in the opening frame after he dashed into the end zone from 2-yards out.
Wills Point drew first blood with 6:45 to play in the first quarter when Josh Eteridge hauled in a 13-yard scoring strike from Tyler Baker.
The Bullard defense held Wills Point to just seven points in the final half.
The Panthers will battle Rusk (0-6, 0-0) at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Panther Stadium.
Wills Point will trek to Brownsboro at the same time in search of its first district win.
