Dallas Cowboys to hand Mike McCarthy the reins

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to make a formal announcement later this week that former Green Bay Packer head coach Mike McCarthy will become the team's new head coach.

The story was first made public by Fox Sports' Jay Glazer and was confirmed by ESPN.

McCarthy served as Packers' head coach for 13 seasons where he amassed a 135-85-2 record.

His 2010 team won the Super Bowl and McCarthy led Green Bay to six NFC North championships during his tenure.

McCarthy takes over for Jason Garrett, who official was relieved of his head coaching duties on Sunday.
