Deason scores 3 TDs in Troup's bi-district triumph

Troup's Desmon Deason scored three touchdowns for his team as Troup beat Leonard, 43-22, in a Class 3A, Division II, Bi-district game on Friday. Deason ran for two scores and caught a 43-yard touchdown pass.

FORNEY — Troup handled Leonard with east on Friday night at City Bank Stadium in Forney.

Troup (7-4) ended Leonard's season by taking a 43-22 victory in the Class 3A, II, Region II, Bi-district tilt.

Troup advances to the Area round where it will meet Newton (10-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Historic Tomato Bowl in Jacksonville.

Desmon Deason scored three touchdowns to pace Troup to its six-straight win.

Deason ran for two touchdowns and caught a 43-yard touchdown strike from Jordan Elliott.

Elliott also threw touchdown passes to Brayden Vess and Jayden Lewis.

Troup's top ground gainer was Calob Smith (18-70), who also had a touchdown in the game.

On the defensive side, Max Hale and Jovany Zavala were the workhorses for the Maroons.

Hale tallied 20 tackles, a caused fumble, one fumble recovery and a tackle for loss.

Zavala's state line indicated 12 tackles, one interception, four tackles for loss and a pass break up.

PLAYERS of the GAME: The Troup coaching staff named Daniel Leon as Special Teams Player of the Game. Leon averaged 35 yards per punt. Hale and Zavala shared the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Troup's Co-Offensive Player of the Week were Deason and Smith.
