Rusk closed out the 2010 campaign by upsetting Lufkin Hudson, 7-2, at Eagle Park Friday night.

The game served as a fitting way to drop the curtain on a turnaround season for the Red and Black.

After going 6-19, 0-14 in District 18-3A in 2009, this year’s group of Eagles, under the guidance of first-year head coach James Dillard, improved to 16-10 overall, 7-7 in loop play.

Hudson (16-11-1, 9-5) will advance into the Class 3A state playoffs later in the week as the third place representative out of District 18-3A — Jasper fnished first in the league standings with Carthage taking second.

The Eagles were led by seniors John David Beard, Blake Fletcher, Colton Campbell and Trent Halbert with a strong crop of juniors, including Michael Lloyd, Austin Davis, Dillon Fitts and Matt Gillioun playing well also.
