Ex-Panther and Oakland draftee Miller turning pro

OAKLAND — The Oakland Athletics have announced that Peyton Miller has come to an agreement with the team after being drafted in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft.

The right handed pitcher was the 434th overall pick in this year's draft.

Miller, a Bullard High School graduate, pitched at Tyler Junior College last season. He struck out 54 batters in 39.2 innings of work.

Miller is most likely to soon report to Oakland's rookie league team in Phoenix, or possibly to the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York-Penn League (Class A short season).

He had signed a scholarship offer with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (NCAA Division I, Southland Conference), but decided on turning pro following the draft.
