RUSK — Rusk fell 47-34 to Fairfield in a game that turned out to be a wild one at Jim Swink Field at Eagle Stadium.

Trailing 21-14 at halftime, Rusk pulled to within a point, 21-20, when Joseph McGowan returned the second half kick off 90 yards for a touchdown.

Fairfield then came back and scored 13-unanswered points to extend its lead to 34-20, but Rusk refused to wave the white flag.

Rusk got late scores from Sean Rogers (a 30 yard touchdown catch from Landon Gates) and on a 40-yard punt return by Brennan Lucien, but it too little, too late.

Alex Jones scored on a 97-yard touchdown run that put Rusk on the scoreboard in the second quarter. The score also cut Fairfield's lead to 21-6 at that time.

Jaden Rushing plowed in from nine yards out in the second stanza to account for Rusk's remaining score in the half.

McGowin also came up with an interception for the Red and Black, who will visit Athens on Friday in search of its first victory of the season.
