Fightin' Maiden Soccer sails past Lady Dragons, 4-1

Brandi Diaz, right, tracks down a pass from Amy Moreira, left, during a recent Jacksonville match. Diaz and Moreira both scored goals in Jacksonville's 4-1 win over Nacogdoches on Tuesday.

The Jacksonville Fightin' Maiden soccer team has at least one thing in common with the United States Postal Service — both deliver in the rain, sleet, snow, etc.

Jacksonville endured an hour long weather delay at the start of the match and went on to take a 4-1 victory over Nacogdoches on Tuesday night at the Historic Tomato Bowl.

“It was a sloppy game, wet field conditions, and we had a long lightning delay,” Jacksonville head girls soccer coach Colten McCown said. “Our girls never complained. They come ready to play; rain or shine.”

Seniors Brandi Diaz, Karla Yanez and Amy Moreira scored goals for the Fightin' Maidens, with sophomore Taylor Gutierrez also booting in a goal.

Senior Priscilla Gallegos picked up a pair of assists in the District 15-5A affair.

Jacksonville (8-5-1, 3-1) will travel to Hallsville for a 7 p.m. match on Friday.
