Fightin' Maiden Volleyball goes 3-3 in Eustace

JACKSONVILLE FIGHTIN' MAIDEN VOLLEYBALL

EUSTACE — The Jacksonville High School volleyball team spit its six matches in the Eustace Tournament late last week.

On Thursday Jacksonville (4-10) pounded out wins over Winona, 2-0 (25-17, 25-17) and Dallas Life Oak 2-0 (25-11, 25-16), while falling to Eustace's Lady Bulldogs, 0-2 (17-25, 11-25).

Thursday's statistical leaders for the Fightin' Maidens were Ka'Lessia Anderson (11 kills, 1 dig, 2 blocks), Tamia Tucker (7 kills, 3 blocks and 1 ace) and Jordyn Whitaker (3 kills, 1 assist, 3 digs, 1 block).

Morgan Washburn added 3 kills, 2 digs and a pair of aces while Lauren Johnson (16 digs) and Ashley Freeney(15 assists) also played well.

Freeney tossed in 5 digs and a spike.

On Saturday Jacksonville disposed of Winona, 2-1 (24-26, 28-26, 25-15) and fell to Palmer in two sets (16-25, 18-25) and to Athens (25-22, 20-25, 18-25).

Anderson (8 kills, 2 digs, 3 blocks), Tucker (5 kills, 6 blocks, 3 aces, 1 dig), Freeney (21 assists, 7 digs, 4 aces) and Johnson (21 digs, 1 kill, 5 aces) excelled for the Maidens.

Meanwhile, TyKeria Tilley came away with 13 digs, 3 kills and 5 aces, Whitaker added 2 kills, 9 digs and 4 blocks while Washburn tallied 8 digs and 5 aces.

Kristen Gonzalez (6 digs, 4 aces) recorded her best performance as a varsity team member.

Jacksonville head volleyball coach Corrie Snider noted the her team continued to make strides in the Eustace Tournament.

Jacksonville will visit Frankston on Tuesday. The varsity match should get under way around 6:30 p.m.
