Final Analysis: Rusk prone to explosive plays in loss to Athens

Isiah Ward (3) of Rusk gives an Athens defender the ole stiff arm as he picks up positive yardage during Friday's non-district game. Athens beat the Eagles, 28-16.

Bottom Line: Athens (2-0) 28, Rusk (0-2) 16

Breaking It Down: Three of the Hornets' four touchdowns came from 20 yards out or more, with the remaining score taking place on an 18-yard run. The Eagles will need to get this cleaned up before taking on Palestine (0-2) on Friday. Palestine's wing-t offense can gash a defense in hurry - the Wildcats were able to score 48 points on Jacksonville last week.

Bright Spots: Brennen Lucian and Jaylon Hall accounted for the Rusk touchdowns, scoring on runs of 4 and 1 yard, respectively. Rusk was still in the game until the final 1:30 when the Hornets added an insurance touchdown.

Next Game: The Eagles will host Palestine at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Wildcats will also be seeking their first win of the season. Friday is also homecoming in Rusk.
