Football: Tribe freshmen shellac MP 38-16, McCown throws for 266 yards, 2 TDs

MOUNT PLEASANT — Ryan McCown threw for 266 yards (10-12-0) and two touchdowns to spark the Jacksonville freshmen to a 35-18 victory over Mount Pleasant on Thursday night.

Devin McCuin scored two touchdowns in the game, one rushing and one receiving.

Dylen Roberts and Isaiah Sotelo each ran for a touchdown for the Indians.

The Jacksonville coaches applauded the efforts of receivers Alan Jackson, John Johnson, Jose Bergara and Koda Canady.

The Indians also got solid play from their offensive lineman — Blake Causey, Alexis Martinez, Hagan Ray, Kentrell Ferguson, Grady Ault, Jon Lambert and Anthony Cummings.

Several young men from the defensive unit also recorded nice efforts.

That group included Chase Wright, Chris Mejia, Jaylon Kendrick, Skyler Whitaker, Caden Willis, Ty Chandler and Dakota Martinez.

Jacksonville will travel to Lindale on Thursday to close out its season.
