Jacksonville College rallied from a six-point deficit late in the second half to surpass No.6-ranked Midland College by an 82-77 margin Saturday afternoon in the Coca-Cola/Guy Davis Tournament in Lufkin. The Jaguars (9-2, 1-0 in Region XIV) got key steals from Lyn'Dale Brown and Nikola Gajic in the closing seconds and turned them both into points with Nelson Kirksey's slam dunk inside the final minute being the icing on the cake. Kirksey, a freshman from Raliegh, NC, led JC in scoring with 21 points. "I can't say enough about Nelson's play today; he was a true stud out there on the floor," JC head coach Jody Bailey said. Brown finished with 15 points while Gajic added 13 for the Jags who trailed 37-33 at intermission. All of Brown's points came in the final half while Gajic drilled in three shots from beyond the arc. "I think last night's loss (76-74 to the Texas Riders, a semi-pro team) humbled us a little bit," Bailey said. "Last night's loss gave us today's victory." JC returns to loop play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by welcoming Blinn College into the Carroll Fieldhouse.
