The Jacksonville Maiden volleyball team got off to a good start on Saturday by taking a 2-0 (25-21, 25-19) straight set victory over Trinity School of Texas in JHS's opening match in the Sabine Tournament at Cardinal Gymnasium.

The Maidens were not as successful against host Sabine, as the Lady Cardinals cruised to a 2-0 (25-11, 25-12) verdict over the Blue and Gold.

The loss sent JHS into the third-place match against Union Grove.

The Lady Lions won the opening game 25-16, but the Maidens bounced back to win Game 2 (25-13).

In the deciding set, it was all Union Grove as the Maidens (7-15, 0-1) fell 25-9.

For her efforts in the tournament, Shelbi Laney of JHS was named to the all-tournament team.

On Friday evening, JHS opened District 14-4A play at home against John Tyler.

The Lady Lions (19-8, 1-0) proved to be the better outfit as JT downed the Maidens 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-5).

JHS will head to Kilgore for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday.

JHS sub-varsity: JT also won the JV match on Friday, disposing of JHS 2-0 (25-13, 25-20)...The Maiden 9th graders spanked the lady Lion freshmen 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-23)...On Saturday the JHS freshmen captured 3rd place in the Arp Tournament...After winning its first match of the day against Arp by a 2-1 (27-25, 11-25, 25-12) count, JHS went on to roll past Daingerfield 2-1 (12-25, 25-13, 25-17) before blasting Sabine 2-0 (25-22, 25-18) to win the consolation title.

Billie Walley coaches ,the varsity, Angela Moon handles the junior varsty while Karlee Wilson is the 9th grade coach..
