Jacksonville girls lose in OT to No. 6 Fairfield

JACKSONVILLE FIGHTIN' MAIDEN BASKETBALL

The Jacksonville Fightin' Maidens closed out non-district play on Monday afternoon at the John Alexander Gymnasium by taking on the Fairfield Lady Eagles, who are ranked No. 6 in Class 4A in this week's Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.

The two teams battled tooth-and nail, with Fairfield (20-2) getting the upper hand on the Maidens in overtime by carving out a 64-56 victory.

Jacksonville (11-8) trailed 24-22 at intermission but won the third quarter, 15-13, to tie the game.

After each squad added 17 points in the final period of regulation, the score was knotted at 54, forcing a bonus session to settle things.

The Lady Eagles scored the first 10 points in overtime, with a Tykeria Tilley 2-pointer being the Fightin' Maidens' only points in the extra frame.

Next up for the Fightin' Maidens is an afternoon game at Marshall on Friday. With a win in that contest the Maidens will be 3-0 in District 16-5A play.
