NACOGDOCHES — Varsity basketball teams from Jacksonville traveled to Nacogdoches on Friday evening for a District 16-5A doubleheader.
In the girl's game, Jacksonville stayed perfect in conference play by defeating the Lady Dragons, 39-26.
The Fightin Maidens ran their record to 12-8, 5-0 with the triumph at Dragon Coliseum. The Lady Dragons are now 2-3 in league play.
Nacogdoches rebounded from an upset loss to John Tyler on Tuesday by downing the Indians, 63-45.
The Dragons improved to 17-8, 2-1, while Jacksonville's worksheet dipped to 9-12, 0-3.
The Maidens and the Indians will be in Whitehouse on Tuesday. The varsity girl's game will tip off around 6:15 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30.
The Fightin' Maidens raced out to a 22-10 lead at halftime and then turned their attention to defense in the final half in earning the win.
Jacksonville held the Lady Dragon to single digits in three of the four quarters and outscored Nacogdoches 12-3 in the second stanza.
Grace Abercrombie ended the night with 20 points for Jacksonville and Alexis Calderon chipped in 10.
Tamia Tucker added four points for the Maidens.
After leading by only nine points, 24-13 at the break, the Dragons turned things up a notch in the third quarter by scoring 23 points and holding the Indians to 10 to secure the win.
Jonathan Denman (13) and Vito High (11) were the high scorers for the Indians.
Devin McCuin dropped in six points and Desmond Fuller had five.
