Jaguar soccer picks up accomplished transfer


When the Jacksonville College Jaguar soccer arrives in town early next month there will players from all over the word, literally, that will donning the purple and gold for head coach Martin Melchor.

Now in his second year as the college's soccer director, Melchor has signed men from Brazil, Chile, France, Japan, Mexico and Spain.

While the group of internationals will be playing in their first season of National Junior College College Athletic Association, respectively, one incoming player will be equipped with a solid resume of JUCO experience.

Kamal Subar (Fes, Morroco), a transfer from Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Penn. will be bringing his talents to Texas.

As a freshman last season Subar, a forward, scored eight goals and took 31 shots on goal in 11 matches. He pitched in one assist and was credited with one game winning goal.

Subar was named to the NJCAA All-Region XIX squad as a second team selection.

JC has a pair of home scrimmages scheduled.

The Jags will first take on Cedar Valley Community College at 5 p.m. on Aug. 10 and entertain Ranger College at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17.

Ranger is coached by former JC head coach Rafael Gonzalez.

The JC men and women will open the regular season by traveling to Tishamingo, Okla on Aug. 22 to battle Murray State College.

The first matches scheduled for the home pitch are set for Aug. 27 when University of Arkansas-Rich Mountain comes calling. The ladies will get things started at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.

Region XIV competition commences on Sept. 3 when the JC teams face Tyler Junior College in Tyler.
