CORSICANA — The Jacksonville College mens’ basketball team found out Wednesday morning it had debuted in the NJCAA Men’s Weekly Basketball Poll — coming in at No. 26.
Wednsday night the team celebrated the achievement by disposing of Navarro College 85-78 in a Region XIV fray played in Corsicana.
JC (16-3, 8-0 in the South Zone standings) extended its winning streak to six games with the victory. The Bulldogs slipped to 13-6, 5-3 with the loss.
The Jaguars took a commanding 49-31 advantage into the locker room before the Bulldogs inched their way back into the game. Navarro pulled to within five points late in the second half before JC regained the upper hand late in the game.
JC received a balanced scoring effort as five Jags ended up with double figures.
Darryl Ashford topped the list with 19 points, followed by Da’Shon Barrino with 14.
Freshman Brice Hill knocked in a dozen, followed by Kenny Franklin with 11 and Brian Sanders with 10.
The Jags’ next action comes at 4 p.m. Saturday at Kilgore College.
