JC hoops teams fall in Sat. conference action


It wasn't one of those weekends to write home about for the Jacksonville College basketball teams.

The Jaguars were no match for Lamar State-Port Arthur at the Parker Center, where the Seahawks treated the home followers to an 87-66 triumph.

The Seahawks (12-11, 6-6) led 39-30 at the half way point.

Lamar St., who was led in scoring by Kantrell Burney (23), had a feast from the free throw line. The 'Hawks drained 26 of 37 (81.3-percent) of its freebies.

JC (11-10, 4-8) is back in action Tuesday (7 p.m.) to take on Lee College at the Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse.



No.2-ranked Trinity Valley Community College thumped the Lady Jaguars, 84-51, in Athens on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Cardinals moved to 21-1, 10-0 with the win while JC slipped to 4-16, 3-7.

TVSS's top point producer was Tiya Douglas with 25.

JC will travel to Beeville for a 5:30 p.m. date Wednesday against Coastal Bend College (2-20, 1-9).
