The Jacksonville High School football coaching staff had a nice dilemma to solve over the weekend — which five players, among so many qualified candidates, to select as Players of the Week for the Gilmer game.

Offensive Player of the Week goes to Ryan Black, who turned in his best performance of the young season in Jacksonville’s 43-36 win over the Buckeyes.

Black went 18-of-24 for 265 yards through the air and three touchdowns while not giving up an interception. He also rushed for 41 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

“It’s hard to argue with any player that scores six touchdowns in a single game,” Jacksonville head coach Steve Wells said. “Those numbers speak for themselves.”

Sophomore Bryson Haywood is this week’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Haywood also posted some outstanding statistics on Friday night.

He had five unassisted tackles, four assisted tackles, one hit, and three interceptions and graded out with 39 points.

“I’m really proud of Bryson’s performance,” Wells said. “He has really come on strong for us.”

Wells also recognized the defensive efforts of Sha’kil Mosley, Dexter Davis, Skyler Price, Londedrick Taylor and Ty Sneed.

Offensive Lineman of the Week goes to three-year starter at right tackle, Tedrick Tilley, who graded out at 83-percent.

Sir’Derek Cassel, a senior, is this week’s special teams Player of the Week according to Wells.

“Sir’Derek hustled on all the kick offs and recovered a fumble on a pouch kick by Rodrigo Carreon,” Wells said. “That fumble recovery was huge.”

Warrior of the Week is presented to Daryl Minifee who had six catches of 64 yards and who also made two kickoff returns for substantial yardage.
