The Jacksonville High Girl's Basketball Camp — “Camp for Champs” — is scheduled to wrap up its four-day run on Thursday at the John Alexander Gymnasium.

The camp, which was coordinated by Fightin' Maiden head basketball Lynn Nabi, drew a robust number of young ladies this year, with 20 campers (1st-5th graders) having taken part in the morning session and 20 girls, who will be in grades 6-9 in the fall, hitting the court for the afternoon segment.

Nabi seemed pleased with the number of girls that chose to attend, especially considering all the camp options that are out there.

Camp for Champs' mission was to stress the fundamentals of the game, while making the workouts interesting and fun.

There was plenty of learning, lots of friendly competition and an ample amount of fun sprinkled in, just as Nabi, who is in his 29th year of coaching, had planned.

“These young ladies have worked hard this week, and I think they have also enjoyed the atmosphere here,” Nabi said. “Hopefully these girls will continue to enjoy basketball and grow within the sport.”
