JHS girls win SFA Invitational

JACKSONVILLE FIGHTIN' MAIDEN CROSS COUNTRY

NACOGDOCHES — Jacksonville High School's varsity girls cross country team won first place at the Stephen F. Austin State University Invitational (Class 6A-5A) on Saturday at Pecan Acres City Park.

It was the Fightin' Maidens' second team title in as many weeks.

Other schools entered included Conroe, Hallsville, Manvel, Houston Heights, Nacogdoches, Pine Tree, Lufkin, John Tyler and Cleveland.

Sophomore Taylor Gutierrez was timed in 20:50.9, which put her in third place in the individual standings. Gutierrez was the first Maiden to cross the finish line.

Reyna Munoz (6th, 21:58.2) and Lesly Munoz (8th, 22:18.7) also finished in the top 10 for Jacksonville.

Michelle Medellin came in 15th place, with a time of 22:44.8.

In the Junior Varsity Girls 3,200 Meter Division, Juliza Cabrera (9th, 15:24.8) sparked the Maidens to a third place finish.

Destiny Garcia (13th, 15:47.1) and Dalla Diaz (14th, 15:49.4) ended up among the top 15 finishers as well.
